Fall.
My favourite season.
Easy on the eye.
All those beautiful colours make the transition to winter that much easier. Though the temps have already begun to drop ( WAY below zero I might add) I find that the colours are warm and good for the soul.
Fall is also my favourite time of year to adventure and explore. I absolutely love summer but it is my busiest time of year. For most its Christmas, Nope, not for me. Working two jobs and training doesn't leave much time for travel other than travel for destination races.
Fall seems like a longtime gone.

Fall means adventure and lots of it. My last race was October 15th and my body is ready for some rest.
Relaxation is Now.
No, No Its not.
Hiking Season is still upon us and our Mountain Biking season has sadly come to an end.
Though every weekend is a new adventure uncovering new terrain.
Since August I have completed 16 Hikes and am running out of hikes to do within the Corner Brook Area. What a wonderful complaint.
Running is my passion but hiking gives me a different kind of freedom, a kind of freedom that running cant give me, I find it soothing, good for the soul. Running makes me feel strong, determined and overall drives me to be the best version of myself. I have learned so much about myself since I started my running journey in 2013 and haven't stopped a day since. Fall running gives me time to reflect on all the incredible learning experiences I had the past training season and all the like minded smiling faces I met along the way.
I owe much of my determination, stubbornness and drive to my Grandmother.
She developed parkinsons in her late sixties, this disease consumed her life until her recent passing in May. Watching this disease take over her life and with it her ability to bowl was heart wrenching. She bowled in over ten leagues and loved the sport fiercely. She is the reason I keep running after my goals, she reminds me that they are attainable and nothing in impossible.
Go after the things you really want in life, its too short to let it pass you by.

Humber River Runners Do The 2017 Tely 10
To switch gears a little.
This past weekend my partner and I hiked 10+ km into the back country in York Harbour, alongside the Blow Me Down Mountains on a trail called Blow Me Down Nature Trail. While the ground was without a blanket of snow, the mountains were coated with white. There is just something special about the way winter carves its path here in Corner Brook. Snowshoeing this trail will be exceptional. 10 kms and your in the mountains, ready to explore. The possibilities are endless right?
I learnt that this "nature trail" is the perfect trail for running and cant wait to hit it up come summertime ( I say summer because most of this trail runs alongside a river and is very wet most of the year ).
I cant wait to get back and explore some more.
While trail running is not a big sport in my city, we have some of the best trails and views for it. With Gros Morne National Park on our doorstep, I have often wondered why there aren't more trail runners in our area.
I am itching for summer. It cant come fast enough. The thought of purchasing new sneakers, hitting up some new trails and feeling the warm sunshine on my skin just seems so far away.
Hungry for new experiences, training plans and travel, I have already started to plan my year- I say this as I look outside at the snow covered mountains.
Just 6 more months right?
Less recently I ventured to the Codroy Valley area to hit up a local hiking trail there more commonly known as Mark Rock Trail- Sgt Craig Gillam. The Hike is held on the second Saturday in July every year in Honor of late Sgt. Craig Gillam. It takes you to the top of the Long Range Mountains Just outside South Branch, NL. There are Stunning viewpoints from the top and a beautiful memorial to Honour Sgt. Craig Gillam. St. Craig Gillam was serving his country in Kandahar, Afghanistan at the time of his passing.
One of my favourite things about hiking in the Codroy area is once you reach the top you can see for MILES, literally. The terrain is forgiving and there is limitless amounts of exploring to be done. Hike in whichever direction you choose and if you are lucky enough you may even see a herd of Caribou.
Hiking continually provides me with new experiences and sometimes I am lucky enough to meet great people along the way. In early October a friend and I hiked Starlite Trail and were fortunate enough to meet a lovely local hiking loving couple who introduced me to this hike, I am forever grateful and will hike this trail annually to pay my respects. Did I mention that these lovely people also maintain Mark Rock Trail along with a few others in the area out of the goodness of their hearts, love of hiking and community. How Awesome is that!!!
Random acts of kindness are the spice of life and even the smallest have the ability to change lives.
With snowshoeing season on our doorstep, I am ready to change gears and embrace winter.
Fall is officially over and new opportunity awaits.
More Importantly......
GUYS,
I have HUGE news. Did I mention HUGE?
Stay Tuned.
Until next time!
