A year ago if you were to ask me what my favourite trail in Gros Morne was I would tell you that it definitely was NOT Green Gardens.
A favourite trail in Gros Morne National Park.... What is that.
I would follow my dislike of Green Gardens with its impossible to have a favourite because the whole park is just beautiful. Though I don't love the Green Gardens trail it too has stunning features.
My perspective on favourites completely changed this past month when I decided to incorporate Trout River Pond Trail into my Ultra Training. This trail had been on my to-do list for years and like most things in the craziness of day to day life I just wasn't able to squeeze it in.
The trail head is located at the entrance of Trout River Pond where the Tablelands Boat Tour departs.

As a moderately difficult trail it was a perfect fit for that particular day of training.
So let me set the scene..
You start in a lovely grassy field and proceed into and through the boreal forest. For about 5 kilometres you are running on a craggy woods trail. This time of year the trail is wet and muddy making the run that much more challenging and fun.
The trail then opens onto the barren Tablelands and it is like you've just ran onto another planet.

Check out that amazing scenery!!!!
Does it get any better than that?
Gros Morne constantly amazes me and always finds a way to leave me feeling like I am "home".
For 2 kms you get to run in awe while looking at the Tablelands. My head was constantly on a swivel! Of course this left me at a greater risk of falling and breaking my neck but here we are, I survived!
This Landscape. I just cant get enough!!
There was just so much to see. Unfortunately I didn't see any Caribou this particular day but hope to do this run again in the near future and look a little closer for my favourite furry woodland creatures.
When you arrive at the finish or viewpoint there are two red chairs there for you to have a spell and take in the scenery. If you are anything like me you packed a lunch!!
Whats an adventure without food?
You may have noticed my furry companion in the photo above. It was Togo's first real trail run so the dude set the pace. I left it totally up to him whether he wanted to walk or run. He was an absolute trooper and appreciated our mid run frolics in the pond and our swim afterwards. He still had energy to burn at the end of our 14 km.

Overall this run was easy. There are moderate hills with some small decent's. The trail is well pronounced, even the tableland portion had a clear pathway for you to follow. There are some small river or stream crossings but they are easily navigated and add to the already insane beauty of this trail.
There really isn't much that this trail doesn't have. If you are looking for an easy stroll or run with beautiful scenery, relaxing vibes, peace & quiet than this is the trail for you.
I now have a favourite Gros Morne Trail and I think this one will be pretty tough to beat.
Covered in Mud and Sweat with HUGE smiles we hit up the pond before our departure for a cool down. It was worth every minute!
