Tuckamore is a Newfoundland term for gnarled and tangled stands of stunted spruce and balsam fir. Individual trees are dwarfed and weathered into swept-back, sculptural shapes by harsh coastal growing conditions- Charles Fraizer
So that's basically ALL of Newfoundland's Coastline Right??
What better name for a Trail Running Group.
Since becoming an Ambassador for Run Like a Girl many doors have opened and others closed.
Following Hailey, Dayna, Courtney, Hilary and Sawna (to name a few) has inspired me in so many ways. I have never considered myself an introvert but moving to Corner Brook has isolated me in SO many ways. With that said in the past two years my life has changed drastically, many positive changes and some negative BUT if you were to ask me I would say that a negative change or event inspire's positive growth resulting in positive change.
In the past 6 months I have opened my wings and spread my roots a little further. I have become a little more grounded, creative and open.
Don't let the sentimental's fool you, this post really is about Tuckamore Trail Runners.
Deep down I have always wanted to be a trail runner but was intimidated by the ruggedness of our province and running alone in the woods. In December I decided to change my focus from road running to trail running after struggling with injury for 2 years. It was time! I felt like I needed this, just like I felt I NEEDED the ambassadorship with Run Like a Girl. So I started trail running.
I can't tell you enough how beautiful it is, all in itself. What a humbling sport!
In May a friend approached me and asked if I thought that we could get a trail running group on the go here on the West Coast. My immediate response was "of course". At that time we already had three members, what more did we need?
From that conversation came Tuckamore Trail Runners and we haven't looked back since.

Our group has exponentially grown in size from 3 to 73 with members from all over the province.
We have weekly group trail runs for all abilities and ages in the Corner Brook Area and longer trail runs on the weekends.
There is a trail running clinic is the works for late summer to early fall and I can NOT wait to share some of our ideas and information with our runners.
What a pleasure it has been getting to show some of our local road runners what trail running on our west coast has to offer them. Better yet, I hope to show people from all over what Newfoundland's West Coast has to offer the sport of Trail Running.
In the past month and a half I have met some wonderful people, strengthened relationships with others, and opened myself up even further to the wonderful sport of running. The positive feedback has been incredible and uplifting. The vibe, the smiles, sense of community and the laughter say it all.

I can't thank RLAG enough for the opportunity they have given me and for inspiring me on a daily basis to dream big!
Darren, for your support, THANK YOU for being on board and helping me grow the trail running community in our beautiful province.
We all have a creative side. Some have to dig a little deeper than others to find it but it exists inside each and every one of us, so dig deep, dream big, inspire and be inspired. The world has so much to offer and sometimes with a little help from our friends anything is possible.
