Sunday Funday.
My favourite day of the week! Sunday's are usually the days that the greatest of adventures fall on- If you are an adventure fanatic that is. Then again, that could be 5 days a week and all weekend for some of us hardcore explorers.
A few weeks ago I wrote an article about the Winter Blues and how you can battle them. Today I wanted to follow up and talk a little bit about Winter Gear, you know the stuff that keeps us warm and protects us from the elements!
Its April- Spring, I know, but winter is still full swing here on Newfoundland's West Coast( Looks at tonights forecast).
When I was in Stephenville skiing a few weekend past we stopped into Colemans to replenish the stores we had burnt on our ski and I noticed while in the checkout that there was a copy of Downhome, The Home and Cabin Edition. I absolutely LOVE this magazine.
Within the first few pages of the magazine there is always a note from the Editor. In this particular edition ( Winter 2017) Tobias wrote a few tips for all the winter haters out there, which brings me to the topic of Winter Gear.
The primary suggestion was to "invest in quality snow pants and snow jacket".
He is not wrong.
Invest in some clothing that is made for winter sports. "with gaskets at the wrists and ankles and a built in powder skirt".
This was followed up with, " Then get yourself a good, warm pair of winter boots. They probably wont look that fashionable, but thats OK."
The next step is simple really. Put it all on and get your arse out the door.
Make a snow angel, Snow Fort, Snowman or go sliding even. There are so many different winter activities that can lift blues. Winter comes EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR. So why not?? What have you got to loose.
If your anything like me you have several pairs of winter boots, a jacket for all types of cold wintery weather with a hat and gloves to match.
A little secret, I never used to be a winter lover. I despised winter with all of my being. I longed for summer immediately after the first snowflake hit the ground.
What changed.... Snowshoes and Cross Country Ski's.
They have changed everything. I now have two different coats for XC Skiing with a vest for warmer days. Several pairs of tights to wear depending on the weather, not to mention socks and gloves. All built for comfort, breathability and different levels of warmth. Snow pants are not a must but they provide great coverage for those windy -10 days.

I recently purchased a pair of Salomon Advanced Skin Warm Escape Nordic Ski Pants & Salomon Advanced Skin Warm Nova Jacket (Pictured Above). Best $330 I have ever spent. Not only are these items great for skiing but ANY winter activity or just running errands. Salomon also made an Escape pant for men! I cant begin to tell you how comfortable the Escape pants are and for a great price point at that. I want to wear them lounging, shopping, running, you catch my drift!!
They key to comfiness is the insulated liner. You really need to check these out!!
Without going to much in depth, the message is simple. Winter comes every year! Rather than being a hater & complaining every time we have any amount of snowfall (I used to be FAMOUS for this), embrace winter! Enjoy snow days, buy yourself some quality gear. Get a pair of snowshoes (they are relatively cheap), rent a pair os skis at your local ski club, go for a slide, go skating. Do anything but sit in the house and complain, Winter will visit again before you know it!
